Greek Social Workers express their solidarity with the Turkish people and social work practitioners.

The Social Work Action Network of Greece expresses solidarity with citizens and social workers in Ankara and other cities in Turkey, after twin bombings targeted a peace rally, killing over a hundred civilians.

We, as social workers, stand with the people of Turkey who fight in the forefront despite the state repression and the murderous attacks against them.

We, as social workers, grieve for the innocent lives lost, people who were present to exercise their democratic right to protest for peace and non violence.

We welcome the fact that, following the explosions, the Turkish Association of Social Workers actively supports grieving families and relatives in their loss, as well as the wounded survivors of the blasts, who still remain in overcrowded Ancara’ s hospitals. Our Turkish colleagues have been very active, also in the past struggles, arranging groups to provide psycho-social support to citizens during protests in Taksim-Square and other parts of the country.

We stand by the people of Turkey and our colleagues’ initiative to support the struggle of the Turkish people.

Today, more than ever, social workers should not be passive or indifferent towards human rights violations.

We, as social workers, fight and should keep on fighting for social justice and social change.

Our Turkish colleagues’ slogan «Ιnadına barış», a slogan, mainly heard in rallies after the attack to condemn and mourn to victim in Sihhiye Square in Ankara, is also our slogan. It means «persistently and purposely peace».
